WWF and Kevin McCloud to come together for National Careers Week
On Monday 3 March 2025, World Wide Fund For Nature (WWF) will be launching its ‘Sustainable Futures Showcase’ for National Careers Week.
As part of the week, the global environmental charity will be hosting five free webinars for students. Guest speakers include designer, writer and TV presenter Kevin McCloud, scientist and filmmaker Lizzie Daly, and TV pharmacist Thorrun Govind, who will be joining WWF experts to share their insights, experience, and how sustainability features in their careers.
The 45-minute webinars, aimed at 13–18-year-olds, will provide young people with a fantastic opportunity to learn about the career journeys of industry and wildlife experts. They will also be able to ask questions about their own sustainable careers, from business and construction to health and education.
Kevin McCloud said: “Sustainability is no longer a sidebar or an option in design and construction. The increasing pressure on the planet’s biodiversity and resources have changed everything. Sustainability, in all its forms, must now lie at the heart of design and making. It’s no longer a tool for architects or a module in design courses, but an overarching approach to how we make our world.
“Sustainability is growing as a political and moral force, and it excites me that its values are woven into our education and the environment in which young people are growing up. My own journey has been exploratory, patchy, sometimes irregular, but always a green one, and I’m looking forward to sharing with and learning from the generations younger than me who will inherit this world.”
Jack Abrey, head of youth engagement at WWF-UK, commented: “That first step on anyone’s career journey can be both an exciting and daunting time, but for young people today, the future may feel even more uncertain, as careers and our way of live are constantly changing in the face of the climate and nature crises.
“As young people look ahead and start thinking about their future career paths, this showcase and our fantastic speakers will share how sustainability can be woven in, building meaningful careers in a wide range of industries that help bring our world back to life.”
Following the webinars, a competition will be launched for students to win a place at a WWF Youth Insights Day in the Living Planet Centre, where they will have the unique opportunity to learn more and meet with WWF staff.
Last year’s winners became campaign managers for the day and connected with staff from various teams including brand, science, conservation and fundraising, even hearing from WWF-UK CEO, Tanya Steele, too.
