Wargrave House welcome new assistant head

Wargrave House School and College have welcomed a new assistant head with the backing of two students who were invited to take part in the interview process.

Rebecca Worsley, who was appointed to the role in January, has previously worked as head of department, Foundation Learning at Cardinal Newman College in Preston.

Rebecca Worsley said: “I was absolutely thrilled when I was offered the position of assistant head at Wargrave House School and College. From the moment I came into the building, I immediately felt a warm welcome from both students and staff and have quickly become part of the Wargrave family and community.

“For the last 20 years I have worked in careers and education supporting young people and their families in various aspects of their lives. I am delighted to now have the opportunity to continue this work here at Wargrave and ensure all students are safeguarded and supported as they grow and develop within the school and college community.

“I am passionate about each student’s personal development and as lead for this area, alongside behaviours and attitudes, I hope to bring new ideas and further develop existing approaches to ensure our students and their families have access to as many opportunities, and are supported in achieving their aspirations and goals on their education and life journeys.”

Student voice is an integral part of everyday life at Wargrave House and the interview panel included two college students who were involved throughout the interview process.

Student Emily said: “I was selected as part of a panel to overlook the hiring of our new assistant headteacher. Courtney and myself interviewed several candidates, and discussed between us what made them suitable.

“I think what made our final choice, Rebecca, stand out was her willingness to acknowledge both of us equally. She was keen to hear our opinions and seemed to have a clear idea of how she was going to tackle the role should she be hired. I felt she didn’t let my lack of verbal language skills get in the way of how we communicated and she was aware of how to adapt to suit the variety of needs that were present in the room.

“She was very personable. She wasn’t overly formal, but friendly and warm. I felt comfortable interacting with her and could imagine approaching her if I needed to whilst at college.

“We wish her all the best as she joins our leadership team.”

Stuart Jamieson, head of education at Wargrave House School, added: “We are delighted to welcome Rebecca Worsley  into our educational leadership team here at Wargrave House School and College.

“Rebecca joins us with a wealth of experience and will be a great asset to the enrichment of our personal development, behaviour and attitudes agenda. In addition, Rebecca is already helping to drive the PSHE curriculum and both pre and post 16 learning pathways.
