Sports for all
The Federation of St Sebastian’s and St Cuthbert’s have been crowned Sportshall Athletics champions of Liverpool for Years 5 & 6 pupils after a breathless finals day held at Toxteth Firefit.
Eight schools went head-to-head in a series of different sports including the triple jump and relay races with the top four schools also qualifying for the prestigious Summer Games.
Organised by the Liverpool Schools Sports Partnership (LSSP), eight qualifying schools: Childwall CE, Dovedale, Federation of St Sebastian’s and St Cuthbert’s, Our Lady of Bishop Eton, Lister, St Anne’s, St Michael in the Hamlet and St Paul’s provided fours hours’ worth of sporting drama with only a few points separating the schools at the end.
There was a fantastic atmosphere throughout the event as the pupils cheered their fellow team-mates on and there was even a Mexican wave to enjoy as well as a teachers’ javelin competition which proved particularly popular amongst the children.
LSSP’s Jason Evans hailed the event saying each and every child “Should be very proud of themselves for their efforts” and said it was the highest level of competition he had witnessed for a “very long time”.
