Sowing seeds of hope at Alsop

Students at Alsop High School began sowing seeds for a wild flower area in Walton Hall Park as part of a new partnership with the Friends of Walton Hall Park and Scouse Flowerhouse.

The students from Year 7 spent time in the park learning about wild flowers and environmental issues. The highlight of the session was the sowing of seeds to create a new wild flower garden for the wider community to enjoy.

Mr Bull, head of religious education at Alsop High said: “We were delighted that our students were asked to participate in this initiative. The young people thoroughly enjoyed connecting with their community and hopefully, creating a lasting legacy for others to enjoy.

“As restrictions are lifted it provided an opportunity for young people to engage with community partners who seek to make Walton a better place to live, learn and work. The young people thoroughly enjoyed this informal education and they look forward to returning to see the fruits of their labours.”

Alsop would like to thank Mrs Chrissie Byrne chair of The Friends of Walton Hall Park and her amazing group of volunteers who facilitated this session. The school look forward to developing this partnership further and encouraging young people to take real pride in their community.

Mrs Chrissie Byrne, chair of The Friends of Walton Hall Park said: “Alsop High School plays such an integral part in our community and helps to nurture future generations of people in Walton. This is one of the main reasons we keep the park beautiful and improve it for us, our community and future generations to have a place to enjoy and improve wellbeing, mental health and to learn.

“We do hope this is the start of what will be a fantastic partnership between ourselves and the school.

“Thank you once again and to all the staff and students who made this a very special project.”
