Southport school prepare to run…or dye!

A Southport primary school are calling for donations as staff members take part in the Run or Dye 5km run for charity.

Farnborough Road Junior School are taking part in the fun run on June 6 at Aintree Racecourse to raise money for DEBRA, a charity that helps raise funds for children who suffer from the genetic skin condition called Epidermolysis Bullosa.

Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) is a group of genetic skin conditions which cause the skin to blister and tear at the slightest touch, making everyday life painful and very difficult.

The school have already raised 63% of its target on the Just Giving site, totalling £255.00. But the school want to reach, or exceed its target of £400, as it’s a charity close to their hearts.

The school’s head teacher, Mr Antell has had first-hand experience of the effects of EB.

Connor Marsden, a pupil at Mr Antell’s previous school sadly passed away in July 2014 due to EB. The condition had a constant strain on his life, as simple tasks like eating and having a bath were nearly impossible.

To honour the charity that helped Connor’s family so much during his short life, the school decided to support and help raise money for DEBRA.

As well as taking part in the Run or Dye event, the school are hosting a non-uniform day this Thursday to raise funds.

You can support the charity by bringing a small donation in to the school, or visiting www.justgiving.com/FRJS/
