Shannon battles to success
Shannon Thompson, a student at Liverpool Life Sciences UTC who was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2015 was celebrating having achieved two A* and an A.
Shannon, who was given the all clear earlier this year, has now gained a place at Edinburgh University to study chemistry,
Shannon said: “I can’t believe it, I am so happy. I wouldn’t have got here without the amazing support of the UTC and my family right the way through my diagnosis. I honestly couldn’t have asked for more. I am now going on and will hopefully work in Cancer research one day, which is my dream.”
After receiving the news of her illness last year teachers at Liverpool Life Sciences UTC sacrificed their beards to raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust, a charity that the school has been closely involved with after one of their students endured a long and difficult struggle with cancer.
Just before Shannon was due to start chemotherapy, pupils at the school volunteered to shave their heads in a kind-hearted act of solidarity and support, whilst at the same time raising over £2000 for the Teenage Cancer Trust in the process.
