Schools go head-to-head to become Sportshall Athletics champions!
Booker Avenue have been crowned Sportshall Athletics champions of Liverpool after a pulsating afternoon of competition at Archbishop Beck School in Fazackerly.
The schoolboys and girls from Mossley Hill emerged triumphant from a thrilling afternoon of sporting drama as no fewer than 275 schoolchildren battled it out at the event organised by the Liverpool Schools Sports Partnership (LSSP).
Ten schools: Booker Avenue, Childwall C of E, Dovedale CP, Lister Juniors, St Anne’s, St Austins, St Cuthbert’s, St Margaret’s (Anfield), St Michael’s in the Hamlet and St Sebastian’s qualified for the finals day after 13 heats took place across the city with the highest-scoring schools going through for the right to be crowned city champions.
The athletes raced against each other in both individual, relay and obstacle races as well as competing in jumping and throwing events specially adapted for indoors.
The top four teams also qualified for the prestigious Summer Games which will be held in 2017.
Orgasniser Jay Watkinson from LSSP said: “It has been an excellent competition and Booker Avenue are worthy winners although each and every team can be very proud of their efforts.
“I have been genuinely surprised at the quality of the performances we have seen today – it has definitely improved since last year – and we have been watching many future stars in action.”
