Rainford High’s Little Shop of Horrors

Talented students at Rainford High recently came together to deliver a dazzling performance of Little Shop of Horrors.

The musical involved students from across all year groups who portrayed many of the key characters from the film.

The production was based on the low-budget 1960 dark comedy film and the music was composed in the style of early 1960s rock and roll, doo-wop and early Motown.

Taking on the Little Shop of Horrors role of nerdy orphan Seymour was Sam who is in Year 10, Audrey was played by Danni, Year 9, while Tom in Year 13 was Mr Mushnik and Year 9 student, Joe played Audrey II – the unidentified plant.

Other roles such as the Singing Ronnettes, the Acting Ronnettes, the Dancing Ronnettes and the Dancing Mini Ronnettes were also taken on by students from different year groups.

The live music that accompanied the show was performed by students, and not forgetting behind the scenes and technical roles.

The show was performed to over 500 people across three nights in Rainford High’s very own auditorium.

Gill Bocker, head of performing arts at Rainford High, said: “This year’s production has been an exciting one with lots of keen participants from across the school which is great to see.

“The auditorium was packed out each night and the feedback from everyone was really positive. The team and I would like to congratulate everyone involved and we are already looking forward to planning next year’s show!”
