Rainford High Sixth Form students celebrate A-level and BTEC success
Rainford High Sixth Form students proudly picked up their A-level and BTEC results today (Thursday, 15 August).
Students and their families were greeted by senior leaders and teachers as they returned to the sixth form to collect the all-important envelopes containing their grades.
This year, Rainford High Sixth Form saw over 90 per cent of students secure their first-choice university place.
68 per cent of students achieved A*-C grades in A-level subjects with 52 per cent of students achieving distinction or distinction* in vocational courses.
Some notable successes include James McCarthy who obtained an A* in history, an A in geography and an A in politics. He is heading to the esteemed University of Cambridge to study history and politics.
Speaking about his time at the sixth form, James said: “Rainford is a very good sixth form. The staff are very supportive and approachable, whether it is in lessons or for anything else.”
Promising rugby league star, George Whitby, achieved a distinction* in business, a distinction* in sports studies and a distinction* in media. George will play full-time with the first team squad at St Helens Saints RFC this summer.
Reflecting on his results, George wisely said: “Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn’t work hard.”
Fellow student, Jack Radcliffe secured three A*s in computer science, maths and further maths, as well as a distinction in performing arts. He will study mathematics at the University of Durham.
Sam Clayton achieved three As in maths, further maths and physics and a B in chemistry. Sam has chosen to go to the University of Sheffield and will study aerospace engineering.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth Pendlebury secured an A* in biology, an A in chemistry and an A in maths. She will go on to study medicinal chemistry with pharmacology at the University of Liverpool.
Budding graphic designer, Isobel Wood received an A* in fine art, a distinction* in ICT and a distinction* in graphics. Isobel is heading to the University of Central Lancashire to begin her undergraduate degree in graphic design.
Alex Traverse will be going to the University of Manchester to study chemical engineering after receiving an A in chemistry, an A in Physics and an A in maths.
