Rainford High runs for the NHS

Staff at Rainford High are donning their running trainers or walking boots as they hope to cover at least 3000 miles for charity.

The school’s staff community are individually running or walking lots of miles in order to raise money for the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust Charitable Funds.

In support of frontline NHS workers, school staff are looking to run or walk at least 3000 miles in 30 days, whether that is in their garden, cross country or along the roads.

The team have currently covered 2398 miles and have raised over £1,400. They hope to hit 3000 miles by 9 June.

Rob Stow, learning leader for Year 8, suggested the challenge and has galvanised staff from across the school. He said: “Everyone at Rainford High is keen to give back to the wonderful NHS workers who are working incredibly hard each day to save thousands of lives which have been affected by the coronavirus.

“We may have hit our £1000 fundraising target, but it would be amazing to raise even more! If anyone is able to donate, we would be incredibly grateful.”

Joanne Burgess, director of special educational needs, mental health and wellbeing at Rainford High, said: “It has been overwhelming to see so many staff getting involved. There are 60 so far and they are all setting their own personal challenges within the event.

“Our wonderful students are now looking to beat the teachers’ challenges with some excellent times from running and walking with their families. The children now have eight days to run or walk and try and beat the 1000 miles the teachers covered in the first eight days. We can’t wait to see how they do!”

Joanne added: “It is so important to promote keeping active and having positive mental health and wellbeing at this time. It is truly fantastic to see the whole school community getting involved even when we can’t all be together.”
