Pupils on song at Cathedral festive fundraiser

Talented young singers from St Mary’s College in Crosby were one of the star attractions at a prestigious festive fundraising concert at Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral this week.

The show choir from St Mary’s Preparatory School, and the chamber choir from the college, raised their voices in seasonal song at the fourth ‘Celebrate a Liverpool Life’ event in support of the Royal Liverpool Hospital’s R Charity.

The evening was hosted by popular BBC Radio Merseyside presenter Roger Phillips, and also featured performances from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Choir and acclaimed mezzo-soprano Danielle Thomas.

The aim of the annual concert is to help audience members to remember a loved-one at a special time of year, and also to generate a significant sum for the new Royal Hospital, which is currently being built.

The R Charity appeal target is to raise £10 million to fund state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment to help patients suffering from cancer and heart disease, and to also save the sight of many Merseysiders.

R Charity head of fundraising, Kate Mylchreest, said: “We were delighted to welcome the two St Mary’s choirs to the event.

“Their excellent performances were really enjoyed by everyone who attended, and provided some festive spark to get everyone in the Christmas spirit.”

St Mary’s College Preparatory School headmaster, Jonathan Webster, added: “It was a real honour for us to be invited to take part in this prestigious concert, and our pupils sang their hearts out to raise money for what is an exceptionally good cause.”
