Post-16 success for St Margaret’s CE Academy

St Margaret’s Academy is celebrating another year of excellent achievement as students pick up their A-level, AS-level and BTEC results today.

The academy in Aigburth has reported another impressive year of results with a 95% A-level pass rate this year, and 31% of grades awarded coming in between A* and B.

Following on from last year’s success, many pupils have gained a place at their first choice universities, including Warwick University, Newcastle University, York, Queen’s Belfast and the University of Liverpool.

The BTEC results were particularly impressive with many students far exceeding their predicted targets.

Principal Stephen Brierley, said: “I’m so pleased that so many of our sixth formers have once again achieved highly this year.

“Today isn’t just about celebrating the success of students who have achieved A* and A grades – it’s about celebrating the success of the many, many St Margaret’s students who have made good progress from their GCSE grades.

“Their fantastic results don’t come about by accident! Instead, they are tribute to the students’ own hard work, to the high quality of teaching here, to the commitment and support of our parents, and to the outstanding pastoral care we are able to offer at our academy.”

For many St Margaret’s students, strong post-16 results (both A-level and BTEC) have proved to be the passport to places at top universities. This year a large number have gained a place at their first choice university, including a number of Russell Group Universities.

Stephen Brierley believes that it’s St Margaret’s burgeoning extra-curricular programme – with, for example, the LJMU Citizenship Award and all the volunteering/community service opportunities – that helps gives St Margaret’s students the edge when applying to such prestigious institutions. Crucially, these activities are open to all, not just a privileged few.

“This emphasis on taking care of all students, regardless of their ability, has long been a feature of St Margaret’s Sixth Form’s ethos, and at no time is that more important than a day like today. All in all it’s another vintage year for post-16 results here at St Margaret’s. Many congratulations to all our students – we are proud of you!”
