Outstanding A-level results at Rainford Sixth Form

Students at Rainford Sixth Form are celebrating this morning after collecting their A-level results.

The sixth form opened its doors at 8am to expectant students and their families, where they were each given an envelope containing their results.

It has been another strong year for Rainford High’s dedicated post 16 provision:

  • 42% of students achieved A*-B grades at A-level with 13% achieving the top tier of grades in all level 3 qualifications.
  • 69% of students achieved A*-C grades at A-level with 42% achieving A*-C grades or the equivalent in all level 3 qualifications.
  • 100% of students achieved A*-E grades in all level 3 qualifications
  • 38% of students have received offers from Russell Group Universities, with some students taking up opportunities of higher level apprenticeships.

Some of the stand out performers were:

  • Lewis Derbyshire secured an A* in chemistry, A* in maths, A* in further maths, A* in physics and A for an extended project qualification (EPQ). Lewis will go to Durham University to study physics.
  • Luke Botcherby achieved an A* in French, A* in Spanish, A in maths and A for an EPQ. He’s now going to study modern languages at Warwick University.
  • Emily Chapman received an A in English, distinction* in sport and a distinction* in business and a C for an EPQ. She will study sport and exercise science at Edge Hill University.
  • Conor Gibson achieved a distinction* in art and design, A* in photography, an A in maths and an A for an EPQ. Conor is set to study mathematics at the University of Leeds.
  • Jessica Harley received an A* in French, A* in Spanish, A in religious studies and an A for an EPQ. Jessica is off to study French and Spanish at the University of Oxford.
  • Callum Irving got a distinction* in business, A in geography, A in maths and an A for an EPQ. He will now read accounting and finance at the University of Leeds.
  • Celvin Lee achieved an A* in maths, A* in further maths, A in chemistry and an A for an EPQ. He will study mathematics at Durham University.
  • Aisling Power secured As in chemistry, physics, maths and further maths. She will head to Queens University Belfast to continue her studies in physics.

Head of Sixth Form, Grant Fletcher said: “It has been another great year for Rainford. As always our students have worked incredibly hard to get to this point and to see their dedication has paid off, is wonderful to witness.

“We wish them all the very best for the next chapter in their lives.”
