Liverpool Life Sciences UTC and The Studio School provide students with real-world experience through unique business partnerships

Liverpool Life Sciences UTC and The Studio School, situated in the city’s Baltic Triangle, are revolutionising secondary education for students aged 14 to 19.

By integrating state-of-the-art facilities and a curriculum designed with business partnerships, these schools ensure students gain relevant, industry-specific skills in fields like science, technology, engineering, healthcare, digital media, and creative industries.

The schools offer a blend of GCSEs, A-levels and BTECs alongside project-based learning experiences with companies such as AstraZeneca and Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation.

This approach aligns with their mission to ‘prepare young people for the jobs of tomorrow’.

Key programmes and partnerships 

Liverpool Life Sciences UTC: 

·        Focuses on science, engineering, and healthcare

·        Provides GCSEs, BTECs, and A-levels

·        Industry partners include Beverston Engineering, Ford, AstraZeneca, and the NHS. 

The Studio School: 

·        Specialises in digital media, technology, and creative industries 

·        Offers academic and technical qualifications with a focus on entrepreneurship 

·        Partners include Skyhook Games, PwC, and Liverpool Hope University 

Real-world experience 

Students benefit from industry insight days, where businesses set tasks for students to solve, providing practical experience and networking opportunities. These collaborations culminate in professionally recognised qualifications, work placements, and career advice, enhancing employability and readiness for further education.

Meanwhile, Bo, a MeDeVet Programme Year 13 student at Liverpool Life Sciences UTC, is now off to study medicine. Bo said: “The unique nature of the work experience integration within the course is what made the difference for me.” 

Rhiannon, a former student from Liverpool Life Sciences UTC’s class of 2018, went to St Andrews University to study medicine.

She said: “For me, the best thing about the UTC was the numerous opportunities it provides to build up our CVs.

“Without the UTC I never would have been able to have opportunities like aquaponics or a placement in Liverpool Royal as well as a four-week placement in a pharmaceutical company. These played a huge part during my applications to university.” 

New offerings for 2024/25 

·        T-level in design and development for engineering and manufacturing, and T-level in digital production

·        Expanded opportunities in medicine and dentistry through the MeDeVet programme and partnerships with local hospitals and dental practices.
