How to choose your options in Year 9, from a Year 10 pupil
In this series, Educate asks local students to blog about their options experience. Mohamed Mohamed, a year 10 student at Calderstones School shares how he picked his.
My name in Mohamed and I am a Year 10 pupil at Calderstones school. When I was choosing my options I was told to stay cool and pick what I am good at, and that is EXACTLY what you should do. You should also take advice from your parents or guardian on how to pick them.
If you are in school, I would say do well, listen to your teacher and remember that the time is always right to do what is right.
“Never think ‘Oh, I can’t do this’ or ‘I’m not good enough’ as impossible is just an opinion, not a fact, and if you work hard you can achieve whatever you want.”
Think more than once about what you want to pick because I have picked two options and while I enjoy them, what I have chosen are hard. I find Computer Science difficult but I have been trying to do extra work at home. My advice is, pick something that is suitable and take your time making the decision.
Future plans
When I leave secondary school Plan A is to be and Olympic standard boxer. I have been working hard to remain motivated and I train five times a week. I am the type of person who has a lot of will and that will get you far in life, whatever you decide to do. Never think ‘Oh, I can’t do this’ or ‘I’m not good enough’ as impossible is just an opinion, not a fact, and if you work hard you can achieve whatever you want.
My Plan B is to enter college or sixth form. I hope to do well in sixth form by revising and remaining focused, as this will pay off. I would then like to go to university to get my Bachelor’s Degree, my Masters and possibly a PHD.
Please take my, your parents, teachers’ and guardians’ advice and ask as many questions as possible.
Good Luck!
