Headline sponsor announced for Big Bang North West
MerseySTEM’s Big Bang North West is welcoming a new headline sponsor for 2016, AstraZeneca.
The global pharmaceutical company, with sites in Cheshire and Speke, is renowned for the discovery and development of innovative new medicines. AstraZeneca pushes the boundaries of science to deliver life-changing medicines.
The Big Bang North West is a STEM celebration which enables young people to discover the exciting and rewarding STEM based careers available in the local area via fun ‘quick hitting’ hands-on action.
AstraZeneca already has a team of STEM ambassadors who go into local schools so its involvement in the Big Bang is a great way of further promoting the sciences. The company also actively recruits apprentices – over 30 in 2015 – as well as taking on science graduates.
Simon Willocks of AstraZeneca, says: “We want the event to be a big success and to spread the word about the exciting career opportunities that exist for those who study science, technology, engineering and mathematics.”
The event, organised by Educate Awards sponsor MerseySTEM, is to be held at Liverpool Exhibition Centre on 5 July and is expected to bring 6,000 school children together for a fun-filled day of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Michelle Dow, managing director of MerseySTEM, adds: “We are delighted to be working closely with AstraZeneca – a local science-based business. Their support will make a big difference.”
