Halton athletes excel at ‘Road to Rio’ carnival
Primary schoolchildren from across Halton gathered at Cronton Sixth Form College today for a ‘Road to Rio’ sports event, developed “as a legacy to the London 2012 Olympics”.
Approximately 380 children from ten schools took part on day one of the two-day sporting fiesta and they rotated around a carousel of Olympic/Paralympic themed activities including tennis, running and football.
Girls and boys competed together under a blazing sun with each activity adapted to meet the participants’ needs and to ensure every child had lots of fun
Organiser Karen Drake said: “It has been a brilliant event and the stunning weather was a real bonus. The children have had a wonderful time taking part in the different sports and even trying a few new ones.
“A big thank you must also go to the helpers from Cronton Sixth Form College who have been so encouraging with the children and are a real credit to the school.”
