Going the extra mile for school

Alsop High School has sent their congratulations to teacher Mr Tony Williams for participating in the ‘Virtual London Marathon’ on Sunday 4 October.
Mr Williams a head of year at Alsop ran 26.2 miles across the Wirral to raise funds for St Vincent’s School, a specialist school for sensory impairment and other needs.
Tony set out at 7am proudly wearing his VLM 2020 running number. His intention was to complete the course the same day without any injury, and of course to enjoy every second with friends along the way. He was delighted to be joined by, two of his colleagues, Mr Chris Blackburn and Mark Bonnesen, who accompanied him for eight miles along the route.
This was Tony’s sixth London Marathon. On each occasion, he has raised funds for St Vincent’s School, Liverpool.
Tony said: “Challenges are what make life interesting, and overcoming them is what makes life meaningful. I am pleased that the funds raised will make such a big difference to the children of St Vincent’s who face challenges most of us can only imagine.
“Sight is a wonderful gift that most of us take for granted! I would like to thank everyone who supported me and helped me to complete this marathon.”
Dr John Patterson, principal of St Vincent’s School said: “Thank you Tony for giving your time, energy and kind thoughts and putting them into action for our pupils. It is much appreciated.”
Mr Chris Wilson, headteacher said: “A wonderful effort from Tony. Everyone at Alsop is proud of your achievement. We are delighted that you continue to raise money for and develop a partnership with St Vincent’s School.”
