GCSE students celebrate success at Rainford High

Students returned to Rainford High this morning to collect their GCSE results.

This year, results day was unlike any other but students and their families were feeling somewhat positive following the Government’s announcement on Monday, stating grades will now be given to students based on the higher of the exam board calculated grade or their teachers’ predictions.

Staff at the school are extremely proud of the young people’s results, with a special mention to Maia Mocanu, Thomas Ralfs and Rebecca Crawley, who achieved a suite of 9’s across the board which is a reflection of their attitude and hard work.

Many students will continue their studies at Rainford Sixth Form. Some will go on to begin an apprenticeship whilst some will head straight in to the world of work.

Principal Ian Young said: “It is a shame that the last couple of weeks of A-level and GCSE results have been overshadowed by last minute announcements that have damaged student and staff confidence in the system that was meant to provide qualifications in a fair and rigorous manner.

“The class of 2020 has worked so hard throughout their time here but because of the pandemic they were unable to sit a single exam. Despite this, they have remained resilient and committed and we are so proud of them.

“Today is about celebrating their potential and success to make a difference moving forward. We are commemorating their achievements today so that the challenges of 2020 won’t be forgotten by future years.”

Ian added: “We will still see many of our students around the school grounds as they continue their studies at Rainford Sixth Form, and with places still available, today’s results will help make up the minds of those still unsure.

“No matter what they choose to do next, I would like to wish each and every one of them the very best of luck for the future.”
