Formby get into ‘The Groove’

Formby High School recently presented their annual dance show ‘The Groove’ which took place at the school’s creative and culture home, The Atkinson, in Southport.

And this year’s performance delivered a whole host of styles, genres and narratives on stage – from middle eastern genies, the ‘Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’, Bohemian Rhapsody, Hillsborough, Greta Thunberg and a colourful ‘Rio’ number!

The show was a huge success and is a perfect example of why the school achieved the prestigious Artsmark Platinum from Arts Council England.

Mr Cook, senior assistant headteacher, said; “Formby High School is proud of the high quality provision offered by its dance department, which encourages a wide range of opportunities in and out of the curriculum.

“From dance lessons with Core PE at Key Stage 3, to GCSE Dance at Key Stage 4 and a popular BTEC course in the Sixth Form, there is something for everyone.

“Our weekly clubs and dance companies are led by staff and student dance leaders with over 130 young performers engaged in regular rehearsals. The school has established a strong presence at local, regional and national events including the U.Dance Festival.

“Students also have the opportunity to work with visiting professionals which also allow students to explore future careers in dance. The school also shares its work with the local community as part of a comprehensive outreach programme (across all creative arts) with local feeder primary schools”.
