Festival of sport
Over 250 disabled children from Merseyside schools took part in The Choices Festival of Disability Sport for Children at Wavertree Sports Park.
The event, organised by Greenbank Sports Academy gave the children the opportunity to take part in a wide range of sports including athletics, basketball (wheelchair and running game), polybat, boccia, new age kurling and football.
Event organiser, Steve Sullivan said: “This event enabled disabled children to experience the thrill of competition and to be recognised for their performance – all of them have had a wonderful time.
“The event would not have been possible without the support of funding from Medicash and Cash for Kids and the help of volunteers from Deloitte and Greenbank College, a big thanks goes to all those involved in making it happen.”
Ian Magill, SEN PE co-ordinator at Woodchurch High School added: “It’s been a fantastic day – an opportunity for the children to take part in genuine competition and to try out different sports.”
