Chicago Bears teach UK pupils American football

The Liverpool ‘Chicago Bears Mini Monsters Tour’, an interactive experience designed for students to participate in American football-related activities and games, took place at Archbishop Beck Catholic Sports College on 22 June.

During the Mini Monsters Tour in Liverpool, organised by Liverpool School Sports Partnership (LSSP), children had the opportunity to participate in a variety of American football-related activities and games.

Most of the participants were Year 5/6 and 7, and learnt basic American football skills, practice drills, and met former Bears’ player Shaun Gayle.

The tour aims to promote physical activity, teamwork, and the values of the sport while creating a memorable experience for students. It included activities such as flag football games, obstacle courses, interactive games, and autograph sessions with Shaun Gayle.

Each session was 90 minutes long and included instruction for between 120 – 170 students. 13 schools participated altogether.

The Mini Monsters youth program stresses the importance of healthy eating, physical activity and proper hydration through non-contact football drills.

Gustavo Silva, the Bears’ manager of youth football and community programs, was on hand to help run the clinics in the UK.

Each event was a great success with one student saying, ‘This has been the best event ever’.

The tour took place across six cities in the UK – Edinburgh, Manchester, Liverpool, Cambridge, London and Exeter.

LSSP are looking forward to working with Chicago Bears again next year.
