Alsop High School completes first stage of Sanctuary Garden

Alsop High School is currently on track to open its brand-new Sanctuary Garden this academic year.

Trustees of The Alsop Foundation CIO have confirmed that the first stage is complete, and the Sanctuary Garden is now enclosed by new fencing.

During the construction of stage one, members of the school, local community and beyond have kindly donated money in memory of former staff, students and governors, meaning that the school can continue onto stage two.

For this exciting project, the school has worked with BCA Landscape to create a design of the garden. Images detailing an artistic impression of what the sanctuary will look like have been created, showcasing a seating area, wooden pergola, trees, and other scenic shrubbery.

Members of the school’s sixth form and ‘My Community Matters’ group have taken the lead in the planting of shrubs, providing students the opportunity to get their hands dirty, develop gardening skills, and play a part in growing what is set to be a beautiful space.

Touches of colour have recently been added thanks to students creating planters containing primrose plants, daffodils, tulips, and much more.

It is hoped that further planters will be filled with flowers and distributed around the community very soon, too.

Mrs Aspinall commented: “It was great to work with these amazing students who really want to make a difference and make our community a better place to learn, work and live. They are great ambassadors of our school, and we look forward to seeing these flowers bloom.”

Peter Bull, chair of The Alsop Foundation CIO said: “This is an exciting project to create an outdoor reflective space. We hope this sanctuary will be an area where we can remember former members and benefactors of our school. We are most grateful for donations received from families of in memory of former members of our school.

“We hope to formally open the garden towards the end of the summer term.”
