Celebrations for Rainford High DofE students

Rainford High recently held a Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Celebration Week which included its inaugural DofE presentation evening.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a programme that invites young people to participate in a range of activities to develop essential skills. Through volunteer work, fundraising, expeditions, and more, students build confidence, learn to work as a team, and generally grow as people.
The evening celebrated the impressive achievements of students at the school who had completed the bronze and silver stages of the internationally recognised award in 2022.
Year 10 students who embarked on DofE for the first time for the bronze award demonstrated admirable commitment by volunteering to assist neighbours, coaching younger children at sports clubs, and working with organisations in the local community. They also enhanced their academic and sporting skills at a two-night expedition in the Ribble Valley.
These students will have the opportunity to enrol on the silver award in Year 11, developing other physical skills and taking part in a three-day expedition to test their navigational and organisational abilities.
At the presentation evening, certificates, badges, and delicious cakes were given to the DofE participants. Cakes and treats were also enjoyed by the families and guests that attended. A visit from Denise Hiller who has been delivering the award for 26 years made the night even more special.
The event follows a recent visit to Buckingham Palace to meet the new Duke of Edinburgh, HRH Prince Edward, for nine of the school’s gold DofE students.
All at Rainford High look forward to the second awards evening later this year which will be held in September to celebrate the current 2023 DofE cohort.
Principal of Rainford High, Ian Young said: “We’re delighted that our first ever DofE presentation evening was a success. As a school community, we enjoyed coming together to celebrate the fantastic achievements of our students who have worked so hard to complete the award.
“I would also like to thank our wonderful DofE managers and leaders who commit to running the award at our school and make it an excellent experience for our students. We’re proud to offer the programme to students and encourage them to take part and learn new skills.”
