Academy of St Nicholas get best ever GCSE results

There were plenty of celebrations at The Academy of St Nicholas in Garston this morning as year 11 students achieved their best ever GCSE results.

Grades increased across all subject areas particularly grades 7 to 9. 

Over 30% of students in maths achieved these higher grades. 

The academy has also saw a record number of students achieving grade 9s overall.

GCSE students from the academy were among the first cohort to sit exams for the first time since the pandemic, as the two previous year groups were graded on assessments and predictions. 

However, despite the challenges, this year’s results have significantly improved since the last set of examinations in 2019.

After completing their exams in June, students were eager to find out their grades and eagerly arrived with their families at 9am this morning.

Kristina achieved fantastic results. She received five grade 9s in maths, biology, chemistry, physics and art, a grade 7 in English and a distinction in music. 

Despite an incredibly difficult start to the year due to a serious illness, Kristina worked relentlessly and has achieved outstanding results.

Kristina commented: “I am overwhelmed with these results. I worked really hard but never believed I could achieve these grades. I am so happy!”

Fellow student Stephanie also achieved wonderful results and gained a grade 9 in GCSE Spanish and grade 8s in chemistry, English and maths and grade 7s in English literature, biology, physics and religious studies.

Stephanie said: “I am still not sure what I want to do in the future but these results will give me so many options. I am thrilled. 

“I just want to say a massive thank you to all of the teachers who have helped me achieve these grades!”

Amaan achieved grade 8s in English language, English literature and maths, and grade 7s in biology, chemistry, physics and religious studies.

Amaan said: “These past two year have been really tricky as I suffered badly with COVID which meant I had to take lots of time off school. 

“I have worked so hard to make up the lost time and this seems to have paid off. I can now get into All Saints Sixth Form College to study A-levels in maths, physics, chemistry and biology. I am off to celebrate!”

Mubarik achieved a grade 8 in English language and grade 7s in English literature, maths, biology, chemistry and physics.

Mubarik said: “My ambition is to study medicine and these grades will help me to do this. 

“I am looking forward to starting All Saints Sixth Form College and studying A-levels in biology, chemistry and psychology. 

“I eventually want to go on to study at the University of Liverpool.”

Headteacher of The Academy of St Nicholas, Mrs Jeniffer Sing, said: “Our cohort has faced many challenges due to the pandemic, but they have continued to perform amazingly and produce excellent GCSE results. 

“We are thrilled that our results continue to improve – this reflects the incredible amount of work over the past two years to improve the quality of the curriculum. 

“The whole of the academy is extremely proud of what our students have achieved.

“The students have been really looking forward to today and it is a pleasure to see them so joyful after what has been a difficult couple of years.”

Mrs Sing added: “I wish Year 11 the best of luck in the next stage of their lives, I know that they will continue to be just as great.”
