Winstanley students do college proud
11 Winstanley College sport students represented the North West region at the AoC Sport National Championships in Nottingham.
The women’s volleyball team, led by Isabelle Aaron, achieved the college’s highest finish in the sport, narrowly missing out on the bronze medal as they finished fourth overall.
Tennis student, Jan Sullivan, competed for a hybrid team in a very strong field and battled till the end in every match. Badminton students Liam Young, Martha Owens and Verity Haslam helped the North West to a fourth place finish overall.
Tennis student, Jan, said: “I really enjoyed the weekend and being given the opportunity to represent the college in such a high standard of competition.”
Sport enrichment officer, Ben Rutherford, said: “The students did the college proud and were a pleasure to coach all weekend. The weekend had everything… sport, nice weather and plenty of laughs. After a tough few years for everyone it was great to see so many smiling faces. I can’t wait to do it all again next year!”
