Liverpool students prepare for regional rowing competition
Students from The Academy of St Francis of Assisi, Kensington, and The Academy of St Nicholas, Garston, are training hard ahead of the Warrington Youth Rowing Indoor Competition next month.
The academies, which are proudly part of the All Saints Multi Academy Trust, introduced a group of Year 8 students to the sport last September, as a way of developing team building skills and interpersonal skills.
Every week since then, 10 students from each academy go to the Wirral Rowing Centre in Wallasey to learn how to row and work as a team.
As their skills and ability have developed, they are now set to take part in an indoor rowing competition with other schools from Liverpool, Warrington and Northwich on Thursday 10 February.
Taking place at Birchwood High School, the teams will compete against one another to achieve the best rowing times on a rowing machine.
Winning students will then have the opportunity to compete in the virtual National Junior Indoor Rowing Championships 2022 on Friday 4 March, with 3000 other entrants.
Miss Heather Duggan, CEO and executive headteacher of All Saints Multi Academy Trust, said: “I am ever so proud of this group of Year 8 students from across the Trust. They have shown real determination since taking up the sport and their skills have come on leaps and bounds.
“We are very excited for the regional competition and the thought of our students representing the trust and their schools in the virtual National Junior Indoor Rowing Championships, is incredibly exciting.”
Miss Duggan added: “I wish them all the very best with their training ahead of next month.”
