ASFA virtually welcomes its new Year 7 cohort
The Academy of St Francis of Assisi (ASFA) has offered a warm welcome to its new Year 7 intake via video conferencing.
As students who will be joining Year 7 in September can’t visit the school in the usual tradition, the academy set about organising welcome events with a difference.
Taking inspiration from St Bede’s Catholic High School, deputy headteacher Mrs Cousineau contacted the Ormskirk school to learn about how they hosted a virtual welcome evening using Zoom.
On the evenings of Wednesday 8 and Thursday 9 July, ASFA welcomed 150 families into the building each night, via the internet!
Headteacher Mr Maddocks greeted families and spoke passionately about the academy’s vision ‘Success for All’ as well as the deeply embedded Christian values.
Students heard all about the typical school day, the subjects they will study and the vast array of extra-curricular clubs on offer. They also learnt about the uniform, academy rules and perhaps most important, what food is on offer in their own Year 7 canteen!
After the event Mrs Cousineau said: “It was a pleasure to meet so many families face-to-face despite current circumstances. Staff are looking forward to September when we can welcome our new students into our ASFA family. We will watch them grow and develop during their time with us and will take pride in seeing them go on to become respectful and successful citizens who contribute to society throughout their own lives.”
