Images of Alsop students and Mo Salah beamed across the world

It is not everyday that Alsop students become ‘internet superstars’ but this week images of Alsop students are trending in the top position on YouTube after students, from North Liverpool schools, had a surprise encounter with Mo Salah.

Alsop Students Ja Disley, Charlie Hardy, Mayowa Hassan and George Astles visited Liverpool FC believing they would have five minutes of fame in front of the LFC TV lenses.

The students were visiting Anfield as part of the Red Neighbours programme. They believed they would be taking part in a commentary competition for the opportunity to win the chance to meet Mohamed Salah, later during the year.

With microphones in their hand Alsop students were asked to commentate on an LFC match. However, behind-the-scenes, Salah watched on through a small monitor, listening to every word through headphones, before stepping forward to make the big surprise.

To their surprise, the man the Kop have nicknamed the “Egyptian King” came smashing through the paper screen.

Mo Salah loved every second of it, saying: “It’s great because the kids don’t try to be too cool, they’re just happy letting their emotions out.”

Salah was hugged, prodded (“I just want to check he’s real”, said one pupil), high-fived and even had his hair ruffled as the students were left dumbfounded.

Mr Paul Deakin said: “Alsop students were absolutely dumbfounded. They had no idea that this was about to happen.

“Mo Salah loved every minute. He was brilliant with the young people. Thank you Mo for your time and the memories that Alsop students will cherish for the rest of their lives.”

Mr Mangan, headteacher said: “It came as a great surprise to find images of Alsop students to be beamed across the globe. We are delighted to work in partnership with the LFC Red Neighbours initiative.

“The community scheme is having a great impact upon North Liverpool and schools to create physically active communities and memorable experiences for young people”.
