Tuning in to children – Music partnership announced

Today, the Liverpool Philharmonic announced a new two year music partnership with All Saints Primary School and Anfield Children’s Centre. A special event, Tea and Tunes marked the announcement this afternoon.

The partnership builds on Liverpool Philharmonic’s very successful music making programme, Tuning in to Children, a programme for under 5’s in Anfield, Everton and Kensington Children’s Centres. These programmes have now been completed and were led by Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra oboist, Ruth Davies, alongside teams of musicians to help accelerate children’s music development.

The new partnership announced today will see the programme extended until July 2016, with the help of All Saints Primary School – the parent school to Anfield Children’s Centre – who are jointly funding the project with Liverpool Philharmonic. The school already have a strong music focus and connections to many musical schemes, such as the Resonate Music Education Hub, who help the school deliver wind and brass instrument training for KS2 children.

Jeremy Barnes, Head Teacher of All Saints Primary School said: “We’ve been impressed by the benefits that Tuning In to Children has brought to Anfield Children’s Centre and were keen to see it continue and expand so that our primary school children could benefit too. We are looking forward its continuation, and to working with Liverpool Philharmonic in enabling our school and wider local community to attend concerts and events at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.”

The new Tuning in to Children programme will again be led by Ruth Davies, who will work alongside Liverpool Philharmonic musicians to deliver the programme to both All Saints and Anfield Children’s Centre. This will include performances, training for teaching to build confidence in delivering music-making with children, training for parents and will also see them working closely with primary school teachers to integrate the programme in to the school curriculum.

The Tea and Tunes event this afternoon brought together children, parents, staff and governors who all enjoyed performances by musicians from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.
